United States of America (USA)

Currently, there are over 3 million people employed in the mining industry in the United States of America (USA). Perhaps this is not so surprising given the size of the country and its mining history, which dates back over 1000 years to when coal was first found and utilised. Coal remains dominant in the industry today; the Powder River Basin providing the largest supply. The US Mining industry is worth billions of dollars and the country is one of the biggest producers of gold and copper in the world. Lead, zinc, molybdenum and iron are also produced.
